What is Elmiron?

Elmiron, generic name Pentosan, is a prescription drug that treats bladder conditions and discomfort as well as acting as a blood thinner. The drug is primarily used to treat interstitial cystitis (IC)/bladder pain syndrome (BPS), a chronic bladder health issue. Elmiron works by attaching itself to the bladder’s wall, providing a buffer between the organ and substances that can irritate it and lead to discomfort.

Unfortunately, despite Elmiron being used to treat bladder conditions for decades, it wasn’t tested thoroughly enough by the manufacturer. It has recently been revealed that this oversight has led to serious side effects for some users that came with no warning.

What is the Problem with Elmiron?

Studies show that Elmiron is linked to an increased risk of eye damage in users of all ages. The main condition associated with Elmiron use is called Maculopathy, a disorder that can lead to partial vision loss and even total blindness.

Vision problems Elmiron has been associated with include:

  • Areas of vision loss (paracentral scotoma)
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty adjusting to dim lighting or the dark
  • Difficulty seeing objects that are close
  • Having a hard time reading
  • Macular Degeneration
  • Maculopathy
  • Scotoma
  • Vision dimming
  • Vision impairment
  • Vision loss

If you have experienced any of the above after using Elmiron, contact an attorney at once. A lawyer experienced in mass tort litigation can help you receive compensation for your medical bills and other expenses related to necessary treatment.

Why Join the Elmiron Lawsuit

Many people have been affected by the negative side effects of Elmiron. Rather than filing individual lawsuits, victims of Elmiron use have banded together to form a lawsuit which is known as a mass tort.

Mass torts allow individuals who have been injured by the same product or event to jointly file a lawsuit against the negligent party responsible for their injuries. Joining a mass tort allows all victims to be justly compensated while also holding the responsible party accountable, hopefully deterring them and similar companies from future malpractice.

Another benefit of a mass tort is that anyone can join regardless of where they are located. Our firm is available to take Elmiron for affected individuals throughout the United States.
