Woman Dies After Vehicle Plunges Into Schuylkill River

Just after 9 a.m. on a Tuesday, a woman’s vehicle plunged into the Schuylkill River in Montgomery County, PA. The accident, which occurred along the 600 block of Righters Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd, PA, resulted in numerous fire trucks, helicopters, and rescue staff trying to help. The woman, a 77-year-old person, was pulled from the submerged vehicle and taken to the hospital but later pronounced dead.

A Multiple-Crash Event

The data provided by police indicate the woman crashed into a car in a parking lot just before the accident. She then reversed and backed into the river. It was possible for news crews to see what looked like a silver SUV submerged. Two police officers and a firefighter dove in to attempt to rescue the woman, and they were being treated for the exposure themselves.
