Police and other emergency personnel were dispatched around 12:30 PM on Sunday, April 21st, for the report of a crash in the median of the Roosevelt Boulevard in Hunting Park. According to police, a Nissan Pathfinder lost control and crashed into a tree in the median.
The Pathfinder was occupied by a group of teenagers, all of whom seemed to be no older than 16, including the driver, who was taken into custody. A 16-year-old male passenger died of his injuries at the scene. All the other occupants suffered injuries that are not life threatening and listed in stable condition.
Residents who witnessed the crash came running to the scene in an effort to help. One resident spoke to the news saying they had to cut the seatbelt of the victim who died to help get them out of the car, which was smoking before emergency personnel responded.
