Police and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of E. Lehigh Avenue and Jasper Avenue for the report of an accident involving a pedestrian on Saturday night. According to the release, officers were dispatched at 8:49 PM.
Police said that a Honda HRV was traveling west on E. Lehigh Avenue when it tried to pass another vehicle headed in the same direction using the median lane. At the same time, a pedestrian was crossing the median lane going north to south.
The Honda HRV hit the pedestrian when it entered the median lane. The 28-year-old driver of the HRV remained at the scene and spoke with authorities, who did not mention if the driver was arrested, but did say that charges could be filed based on the conclusion of the investigation.
The victim was transported by medics from the Philadelphia Fire Department to Temple University Hospital with severe head trauma where they were pronounced deceased.
