According to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, the accident happened shortly after 7 PM on Wednesday, June 19th in the area of Delancey Avenue on the Black Horse Pike. The victim, a 62-year-old man in a wheelchair, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an initial investigation, police found that the victim was crossing Delancey Avenue when he was struck by a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 59-year-old from Pleasantville as it turned left from the Black Horse Pike onto Delancey.
The fatal wreck caused traffic to be delayed and detoured for more than four hours while police and fire crews conducted an investigation and cleared the scene of debris. The driver of the Pathfinder remained at the scene and was found to be an unlicensed driver. The driver was issued multiple traffic summonses and was issued a summons for causing death while driving unlicensed.
