According to the police, the wreck occurred around 2:45 AM at the intersection of Delaware and Fernwood Avenues. The investigation found that a Toyota Camry driven by an 87-year-old man was sitting at the stop sign on Fernwood Avenue. As a Toyota RAV4 approached the intersection the Camry entered and both vehicles collided and wound up off the road.
The 87-year-old driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the crash scene by paramedics. The driver’s wife, 83, was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden with serious injuries. The driver of the RAV4, 19, was evaluated for chest pain but refused medical transport.
Detours around the intersection were in place for upwards of four hours for the investigation. Police are asking witnesses of the crash to contact their Traffic Safety Unit at (609) 926-2641 with any information.
