Delaware County Pursuit Ends in a Driver’s Death

A pursuit after a traffic stop left a man dead in Delaware County, according to news reports. The incident took place in Chester, where police officers were pursuing the person after a traffic stop just before 2 a.m. on a Tuesday. Initial information indicates the person tried to stab a police officer.

The police stated that, prior to the pursuit, the female driver stopped the vehicle and got out of it. That’s when her boyfriend climbed into the driver’s seat and fled the officers. Police had to use spike strips to disable the vehicle on I-95 near Stewart Avenue. When they did, the driver got out of the vehicle, climbed over the barrier, and jumped onto the Amtrack tracks located below. Police found him there, injured.

Man Was Fleeing Due to DUI

According to police reports, the man was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center with significant trauma and in cardiac arrest. He died of his injuries. They learned he was due in court for a DUI charge the following week. Data from the accident was limited, and it was not clear initially who tried to stab the officer.
