An illegal car meetup in the Philadelphia metro area resulted in a crash that hospitalized police officers. The accident happened in front of the Target retail store on Monument Road in Wynnefield Heights. At least 50 vehicles were present, many of them driving recklessly. Police officers followed those vehicles to Broad and Tioga in North Philadelphia.
At that point, the vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed, driving head-on at the police officers. This led to two vehicles swerving and crashing into utility poles and buildings located along the side of the road. Four officers suffered injuries and required medical care. Three of the officers were suffering from leg and arm injuries but were stable. No information was provided initially on the condition of the fourth officer.
