Gunfire Erupts at Christmas Village in Dilworth Plaza

What should have been a simple outing turned tragic in Philadelphia after two teens were struck by gunfire while visiting Christmas Village in Dilworth Plaza. The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m. near Rothman Ice Rink, just outside of City Hall in Dilworth Park. Police reported two teens were shot after fighting escalated into the shooting. One of the teens was shot in the face and taken to Jefferson Hospital and was said to be in critical condition. Another teen was shot in the right calf and taken to Jefferson Hospital in stable condition.

Later, police reported a third child was struck in the leg and taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia by his mother. That teen is also in stable condition. Any type of shooting is tragic, and that is even more so the case in situations involving children. In this situation, it is unclear what the circumstances were that led up to the incident.  If negligent security played a role in this case, the property owner could be held responsible for the injuries sustained.

Police Take Suspect into Custody

It is important to note that the police took one suspect, another 14-year-old, into custody several blocks from the shooting, though it is believed other suspects are being sought in the case.

For victims of a shooting like this, it is critical for victims to seek legal representation to help them navigate their rights. If you are the victim of negligent security, contact Kwartler Manus now to learn more about your rights.
